“Where are you going?” Leo’s voice makes me jump and I squeak a little bit.

“You scared me, you ass!” I cover my mouth, then pull my hand away so I don’t smudge my lipstick. Leo arches an eyebrow, and I push my glasses up my nose.

“Are you working today?” My brother scans my outfit and I suddenly feel like a fifteen-year-old sneaking out in inappropriate clothes.

“No, why?” I shrug and sort through the coat rack to find my black peacoat.

“You have a date, don’t you? Is that red lipstick?” My brother narrows his eyes.

“I can’t look nice for me? Why do all men think women dress for them? I can look good, just to look good.” I start to continue my rant, but Leo holds his hands up to stop me.

“Never mind, be careful, have fun, just don’t talk anymore.” My brother takes another look at my outfit and shrugs. He picks the weirdest times to be a typical big brother.

“Bye!” I throw the door open and close it behind me, glancing down at my outfit. Black Converse, black pleated skirt, RaeGun t-shirt, smoky eye and red lips. It’s the perfect date outfit. I have a twenty-minute drive to August’s house, but I have to stop by Words for Nerds to get my coffee first. I hop in the car, finally checking my texts, and smile a little. August left after our second game of Forever Quest, without anymore almost sex moments. I walked him to the door, he pulled me against him and I kissed him goodbye in front of all the customers, and then I watched him walk to his car. August is not what I expected, but I’m not disappointed. He’s cocky, irritating, and I still want to punch him most of the time, but he’s more. A lot more. I make the drive to the comic shop, ready to deal with my friends giving me hell about getting frisky last night.

“Look at that goddess!” Tuesday waves a towel at me from Second Breakfast.

“Hey! I need my fix.” I really only need a pep talk since we’re going for coffee, but coffee is a good excuse for that. I weave around a group of girls scanning the Justice League comics.

“So, date numero uno! Excited?” Greer doesn’t wave or look up from her sketchbook.

“I am. He’s fun.” I drum my fingers on the counter and wait for Tuesday to serve up my Highland Grog.

“You have fun playing with his joystick.” Noralee appears from dusting the collectibles around the corner dressed in a black skirt with a gray top covered in ravens.

“I must eagerly await the joystick. We made a deal, he has three dates to convince me to let him plug into my system.” I take my cup from Tuesday and wink at Noralee.

“Did he give you a counter offer? He’ll make you put out before three dates? Like, is there a counter offer that means you sleep with him sooner?” Noralee looks around at the customers and twists her lips in thought.
